FORTNITE BATTLE ROYALE: A New World Of Opportunities In Gaming
A new era of the battle royale games has commenced after the launch of PlayerUnknown’s Battleground, popularly known as PUBG. The gaming world was remodelled into the battle royale genre soon after its release. PUBG became the most purchased game on Steam and it started to break several records in the industry.
But its success was short-lived following the release of Fortnite Battle Royale. Fortnite, after its release in September 2017, became one of the most streamed games in just 3 months. Currently as of April 2018, it has around 3.4 million concurrent players across all platforms.
So the question arises; Is this the beginning of an ultimate battle royale experience or will its success be eclipsed by another future potential?
Here’s everything you need to know about Fortnite Battle Royale, the game that changed the genre.
Fortnite Battle Royal is a battle royale game by Epic Games like any other with the added ingredient of building structures that makes it stand out from the rest. The part where you can build structures is a carry-over from the base-defence game Fortnite (now known as Fortnite Save The World). Like any other battle royale game, the players have to survive on the island by eliminating other players.
Fortnite Battle Royale is a competitive shooter between 100 players. The players airdrop from a flying bus onto an island which has a consistent map. Every player gets a pickaxe as they drop down. There are weapons, arbors and other useful equipment that are spread across the island. The aim is to survive (be the last player standing) by eliminating others. As with other battle royale games, the play area (eye of the storm) slowly shrinks to force players into a combat. Players outside the eye of the storm will take damage and potentially die. This makes the playing area tighter, making it harder for players to avoid combat. There is also a squad mode where a team of 4 players compete to beat the other teams and survive till the end.
The game engine is relatively different from every other battle royale in the market. It has the same engine as in Fortnite Save The World. Just that the battle royale version takes the constructing of structures from its ordinary version. The world in battle royale is destructible meaning you can harvest building materials trees, cars, walls and other objects so that you can make your own platforms, walls and ramps. This makes players to think about different defence techniques and aids them in implementing creative strategies.
Fortnite Battle Royale is currently free to download on PC, Xbox, Playstation. The mobile version is in beta stage on iOS and will be releasing soon on Android. It will consist of the same core game with a support for cross-platform.
The game is in Early Access mode which means that new features are being regularly added and tested by Epic Games. The company plans to release the final version till the end of 2018. Meanwhile, there will be a lot of changes that will take place. New cosmetic items will be added to the game maintaining the stability of the servers and the quality of the game. New maps might also be added.
V-Bucks: The In-game Currency
V-Bucks is an in-game currency that can be purchased by the player for roughly one penny. This currency then can be used to buy cosmetic items for the character such as character skins, dances, glider and pickaxe skins in the game shop.
